The Inn

Back Bay Inn is a cornerstone landmark in the picturesque harbor village of Burton, on Vashon Island, Washington. It is convenient to Seattle and Tacoma, yet far enough from the hustle-bustle, making it a favored destination for a weekend breakfast or an overnight romantic getaway.

The inn, established in 1992, is reminiscent of the late Victorian inn in architecture, decor and attention to detail. Cupolas, multi-lighted windows and bright trim add to its distinctiveness. It is run much like a European auberge where accommodation and food service are provided in an intimate setting and on a personal basis. The innkeepers and staff have created an attractive, richly comfortable environment reflecting the authenticity and warmth of the turn-of-the century home originally on the property. Amenities include:

  • Four upstairs guest rooms with private baths
  • Antique furnishings and harbor views
  • Cozy library/common room with fireplace
  • Elegant restaurant...dinners available Tuesday - Saturday
Not to be overlooked are the grounds of the Back Bay Inn. Hillside gardens abound in splashes of seasonal color. Exciting to look at and scented to perfection, these fresh herbs and flowers are gathered into bouquets for guests' rooms and the restaurant. They are also the backdrop for an aromatic walk to the top of the property for wonderful views of the inner harbor and the distant lights of Seattle.

Breakfast

Back Bay Inn's dining room is open to the public for Saturday and Sunday breakfast. Overnight guests are treated to a satisfying breakfast each morning of their stay. It is the Back Bay's choice to take extra time and effort in the preparation and presentation of food, as a celebration of the finer things in life.

The Inn's breakfast menu reflects Vashon's pride in uniqueness, inventiveness and purism, affording guests a dining experience to look forward to, thoroughly enjoy, and fondly remember. Dungeness crab cakes, weekly specials, traditional breakfast fare and homemade breads and pastries are just a few of the many fine selections.

Vashon Island

The waters of Puget Sound surrounding Vashon Island are home to seals, sea lions and occasionally whales and dolphins. Great blue herons, bald eagles and other birds are often seen along the island's shores, making its beaches popular for bird watching and boating.

Inland, Vashon has a charm and country flavor all its own. There are miles of tree lined roads for walking, riding, or driving. Cycling and horseback riding have always been popular on Vashon. Antique and gift shops, the seasonal Saturday Market, and Blue Heron Center for the Arts add to the island's ambience. Fall colors on Vashon are especially beautiful as are bright skies on a starlit night.

To Get Here

Vashon Island is just a 15 minute ferry ride from West Seattle, the Kitsap Peninsula, or Tacoma. It is also directly accessible from downtown Seattle by rapid passenger-only ferry service.
